(Action)
MERIDA: Some say our destiny is tied to the land as much a part of us as we are of it. Others say fate is woven together like a cloth. So that one's destiny intertwines with many others. It's the one thing we search for or fight to change. Some never find it. But there are some who are led.
Elinor: (Merida可以根据括号里的内容,同时配些音效,Elinor等待音效结束再接)A princess must be knowledgeable about her kingdom……(Merida draws) She does not doodle……(Merida plays the piano,弹错音) That's a C, dear……(Merida laughs out loudly) A princess does not chortle……(Merida eats) Does not stuff her gob……(Merida gives a stretch伸懒腰) Rises early…..She must be compassionate, patient, cautious, clean. And above all, a princess strives for... Well, perfection.
Act One
Voiceover: Merida comes into the dining hall. As she enters, Fergus is telling her triplet brothers the story of his battle with Mor'du the bear.
FERGUS(讲故事的语气,可慢一点,绘声绘色、添油加醋状): ……And then, out of nowhere, the biggest bear you've ever seen! His hide littered with the weapons of fallen warriors. His face scarred with one dead eye. I drew my sword and...Whoosh! One swipe, the sword shattered. Then "chomp"! My leg was clean off. Down the monster's throat it went. It has never been seen since, and Mor’du is still roaming the wilds waiting his chance of revenge.
(Bang) (Merida put the bow on the dining table)
ELINOR(皱眉): Merida, a princess does not place her weapons on the table.
Merida(抗议,不耐烦): Mum! It's just my bow.
ELINOR: A princess should not have weapons in my opinion.
FERGUS: Leave her be. Princess or not, learning to fight is essential.
Merida: You'll never guess what I did today.
ELINOR: Hm?
Merida(激动): I climbed the Crone's Tooth, and drank from the Fire Falls.
FERGUS(开心,欣慰): Fire Falls? They say only the ancient kings were brave enough to drink the fire, hahaha. (笑到一半看见Elinor,止住,岔开话题) Hmm… Hungry, aren't we?
ELINOR: You'll get dreadful collywobbles. Oh, Fergus, will you look at your daughter's plate?
FERGUS:(Aye means yes or okay)([aɪ]) Aye, aye.
ELINOR(不满): Oh boys! Don't just play with your haggis ([ˈhæɡɪs]). How do you know you don't like it, if you won't try it? That's just a wee sheep's stomach. It's delicious. (侍从递来信封) Mm? A letter? (打开信封,开心) Aha. From the Lords Macintosh[ˈmækɪntɒʃ], MacGuffin |\mə-ˈgə-fən\ and Dingwall. Their responses, no doubt. Aye, aye!
FERGUS: Hey! (LAUGHS)
ELINOR: Fergus? They've all accepted.
Merida: Who's accepted what, Mother?
ELINOR(正色): Boys, you are excused. (Boys GIGGLING and left the dining hall.) Your father has something to discuss with you. Fergus?
FERGUS: Oh. (CLEARS THROAT) (COUGHS) Er... Merida… The lords are presenting their sons as suitors for your betrothal.
Merida: What?
FERGUS: The clans have accepted.
Merida: Dad!
FERGUS: What? (突然口吃) I...
ELINOR: Honestly, Merida, I don't know why you're reacting this way.
FERGUS: This year, each clan will present a suitor to compete in the games for your hand.
Merida (音量加大一点,不满): I suppose a princess only does what she's told?
ELINOR: A princess does not raise her voice. Merida, this is what you've been preparing for your whole life.
Merida(生气): No, it's what you've been preparing me for my whole life. I won't go through with it. You can't make me.
ELINOR: Merida!
FERGUS: Huh? M..Merida!
Voiceover: Not wanting any of this, Merida angrily storms out of the Great Hall to her bedroom. Elinor enters the bedroom.
ELINOR(讲故事): Once there was an ancient kingdom...
Merida(不耐烦): Oh, Mum!
ELINOR(继续讲故事): …Ancient kingdom. Its name long forgotten, ruled by a wise and fair king who was much beloved. And when he grew old he divided the kingdom among his four sons, that they should be the pillars on which the peace of the land rested. But the oldest prince wanted to rule the land for himself. He followed his own path and the kingdom fell to (慢速三连)war, and chaos and ruin.
Merida(不屑): That's a nice story.
ELINOR (严肃): It's not just a story, Merida. Legends are lessons. They ring with truths.
Merida: Och ([ɒk], och means okay), Mum.
ELINOR: I would advise you to make your peace with this. The clans are coming to present their suitors.
Merida: It's not fair.
ELINOR: Merida. It's marriage. It's not the end of the world.
Voiceover: Elinor goes back to the bedroom, frustrated and Fergus is comforting her.
FERGUS: You're muttering. ([ˈmʌtərɪŋ] 嘟囔)
ELINOR: I don't mutter.
FERGUS: Aye, you do. You mutter, lass([læs]), when something's troubling you.
ELINOR: I blame you. Stubbornness…It's entirely from your side of the family.
FERGUS: (大度,笑) I take it the talk didn't go too well, then?
ELINOR(烦恼): Ooh, I don't know what to do.
FERGUS: Speak to her, dear.
ELINOR: I do speak to her. She just doesn't listen.
FERGUS: Come on, now. Pretend I'm Merida. Speak to me. What would you say?
ELINOR: Ooh... I can't do this.
FERGUS: Sure you can. There, there. That's my queen. Right, here we go. (以下几段皆为Fergus模仿Merida讲话,些许滑稽) "I don't want to get married." "I want to stay single and let my hair flow in the wind…as I ride through the glen firing arrows into the sunset."
ELINOR (Smiles bitterly and breaths deeply and tries): Merida, all this work, all the time spent preparing you, schooling you, giving you everything we never had. I ask you, what do you expect us to do?
FERGUS(模仿Merida): Call off the gathering. Would that kill them? You're the queen. You can just tell the lords the princess is not ready for this.
