Sardis: （Monologue）November, 1968. New York's autumn had a way of cutting pedestrians to the bone. That was my fifteenth year in Brooklyn. A bundle of dried wild daisies sat on the bar counter. Eleven-thirty at night, I was putting away the bottles, lining up the clean glasses, getting ready to close up. Then the bell rang. A shadow slipped in with a gust of cold air. Behind it came the strained breathing of a man in pain. His name was Michael. He was a regular.
