桑德拉、萨穆埃尔以及他们视力有障碍的儿子丹尼尔在偏远山区生活了一年。某天，萨穆埃尔被发现死在阳台之下。警方立即展开了涉嫌命案的调查。在不确定的情况下，桑德拉被控：这是自杀还是谋杀？一年后，丹尼尔参加了母亲的审判，这也是对他父母关系的真正剖析。这里截取了庭审上播放的发生在案发前一天的夫妻争吵录音一段。

（We're at the cottage. For the first time, we see Samuel and Sandra together, engaged in a discussion. She's at the living room table, he's in the kitchen. With his back to Sandra, he slides his phone onto a shelf and finishes preparing bolognese, while answering Sandra's call. The tension builds slowly）

SANDRA: What do you expect me to do?  it’s part of the job, you'll have to organize yourself differently.I’m not going to cancel.

SAMUEL: How am I supposed to get organized differently on my own? You know we have to plan things together. I’m not just going to leave Daniel alone because you’re off doing your own thing.

SANDRA: Leave him with Monica, what’s the big deal?

（He brings two plates to the table, and they eat while continuing to talk.）

SAMUEL: 3 days a week? we’d have to pay her for that! We can’t afford it! I need time, not just a few hours, I’m talking about blocking out time for myself for the whole year. This isn’t working for me anymore.

SANDRA: Well, organize your time differently if you want to; it’s up to you… (faisant référence aux pâtes)  

SAMUEL: Sandra, when’s the last time you helped him with his homework?（SANDRA: Mmm, it’s delicious.）There’s a ton of things you don’t give a shit about, and that’s the time I’m talking about.

SANDRA: (douce)Darling, the book just came out, you know very well that it’s just this time –

SAMUEL: It's ALWAYS “just this time”! Whether you have a book out, or you're writing, or you need space to figure out what to write... or when you're invited who knows where... I’ve been following your lead for years ! I can’t do anything with my time. Do you understand ? It's not my time, it's yours !

SANDRA: Do I force you to teach? Do I force you to homeschool Daniel? No one’s forcing you. If you want to make more time for yourself, I've never stopped you.

SAMUEL: (interrupt)Are you fucking serious? I cut my course load in half this year to gain more time, and it's still not enough. I have to finish the renovation, PLUS I'm dealing with EVERYTHING else. Why do you refuse to talk about it? Why can't you just admit that it has to do with how things are divided between us?

SANDRA: Because you’re wrong, I don’t owe you any time, I do my part. C'mon, let's not start taking inventory here, please. Let’s relax. (gently)I love you.

(Everyone takes it in their stride. Silence stretches, she pours herself some wine and offers it to him, he declines)

SANDRA:When you decided to homeschool Daniel , I told you: “ be careful,” it’s a beautiful and generous choice and I thank you for it, but you don’t have to do it; I told you it would force you to cut...

SAMUEL: (la coupant)What? Having to spend more time with my son? Force me to spend time with my son? Well, I’m glad I did. I wouldn't have the relationship I have with him today if I  didn’t

SANDRA: The relationship I DON'T HAVE with him, that's what you mean?
